Finish project design with Self Evaluation of the project

Today I finished the small changes that I needed to do to finish off my video to my satisfactory. I changed a few sound levels so that the introduction sound of heavy rain was more sutel. I have exported my final video from Premiere in the format avi because it was better quality that I want to display my work as, but if I was to use this video to put onto a website I would have to export as I different file format because the avi file is to large. It would have to be exported as the format H.264 but this would bring the quality of the video to a lower level.

I am very happy with outcome of my video. The ideas and development that changed my original idea made my final production video present a much more unique creative design with a narrative. I have learnt from other projects that many ideas combined together can make an outcome much better. I used this technique throughout the project to develop a main idea I had and from just being aware of the things in my everyday life and experimenting with new ideas I have learnt that your first idea is can seem good, but it can turn out twice as good when you change it and be adventures withn design desicions. I enjoyed film recording, producing my own music and lyrics as part of the journey. The music and lyrics play a big part in which it tells the viewer how the person is feeling an emotion of the journey she is taking through the forest to show the meaning of the message that I wanted to get across to my audience of being alone will always affect you sometime in your life.

My strong point was the design process of changing and experimenting with developing my origional idea. The short film had a lot of my own personal research and evaluation of the topic. I think that the pace of the film and the length of it made it more effective to keep the eye of the audience interested and alert. I think that the music I created was the strongest peformance with the support of a creative visual video with the effects that I exprimented with.
My performance in the project I think was really good. I got an idea and experimented with effects to make it different and unique. I then developed my original idea to produce a stronger narrative for a journey.

I am happy with the final outcome to display a visual and audio film that was created from a personal point of view to the message and audince it was aimed at in delivering a unpleasant feeling of lonlliness to a positive way of design creativity. If I was to think about future projects, I will be using the same design process that I used for this project.

Editing Part 2

Today I filmed the new idea for the introduction and ending for my film and then added it to my video editing. I have finished the editing stage, so I have exported my video from aftereffects as a avi movie. My original files are rather big file sizes and exporting them as avi would increase the file size, but I exported as H.264 in comparison and I was not happy with quality of it. It doesnt need to be a small file size so much because It is not going on the web, but if it was I would proberbly think of an alternative format like Mpeg.4.

I took my video into Premiere to add some transitions that were only avaliable in this program to add some small effects to the video.

I am very happy with how it is looking. I am pleased that I changed my original idea of a journey through the forest because I have created something unique with my own personal reference to it.

Editing Part 1

Today I have started to experiment using my video footage in Aftereffects. I have developed the idea of changing from black and white clips, with a colour layer over the top with a low opacity to create a ghost affect of the girls movement.

I will continue to use this technique style throughout. I have created the music that I will apply to it using the software Garage band. I have made a track that starts off with the sound of rain that will then decrease in volume to introduce the melody of a song with lyrics that I have created to go with it. After the song, it fades out and is brought back to the noise of heavy rain.

I am happy with the idea of effects and music that I have created separately so far for the journey project.

Research for inspiration of lyrics

I want to express the girls feelings by using meaningful lyrics in the music composition. So I have looked around on the Internet for inspiration.

I came across some of these that would work for story telling through lyrics:

http://www.poetseers.org/sri_chinmoy/sri_chinmoy_poems/poems-loneliness/

http://www.poemsaplenty.com/poems/category/index.php?id=70

There first poem that I came across I really liked, and the words are perfect. When you read them you get this sense of someone lonely. I don't really need to change the words because they work well together as they are.

I have researched the areas that I needed for a creative design that I am going to imply in my editing for the video and audio music.

Research inspiration for music composition

I want to create my own music composition for my video. I know what type of music that I want to look at for inspiration. The music that I have looked at tell a story from the lyrics being sang. I am going to apply this technique to my own music design.

Tracks that I have listened to:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2WWrupMBAE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5w9E5yJDOwM

There are loads of music artists that tell a story through lyrics and emotional feeling from a repetitive melody and the choice of the right instruments to create an emotional sound.

I want to achieve a similar technique using poem words for lyrics and develop my own music track. When I listen to a music track it can change how I am feeling. So an approach of using emotional lyrics and a repetitive melody will hopefully achieve the outcome I want.

Research on the meaning of colours

The meaning of colour?

Colour can change one reaction in one person and a very different reaction in somone else. Sometimes this is due to personal preference, and other times due to cultural background. Since the year 1967 we are use to visual things on screen being in colour. Colours can affect different people, either individually or as a group, as something that some people feel differently about colours and their meanings. When I though of creating a visual short film I thought of full colour staright away, but what meaning and rection does something black and white give us?

Dreaming in Black and White

Black symbolises the unknown, the unconscious, danger, mystery, darkness, death, mourning, rejection, hate or malice. It is a deeper in mind that gains a better understanding of yourself. It can also signify a lack of love and lack of support, but the colour black in a postive responsive can represent potential and possibilities that someone might have.

To dream in black and white, suggests that you might be more objective in formulating your decisions. It could be the the thought process of needing to find a balance between two opposing views or more. Black and White dreams is a sign of depression or sadness. You may feel that there is not enough excitement in your life.

From the research I am going to use colour and black and white video footage because it has the meaning of sadness from gradient colours to strong colours towards the visual meaning of feelings that I want to show in my design desicion towards the reason for implying this technique.

Filming

Today I took advantage of the first fine day in a week, and shot all of my footage for my video. The dolly track that was hand made worked very well for the motion shots that I wanted. As I was looking back at the footage I had, I though that I could do with a few more so that when it cam to editing I would have a wide range of footage to play with. I took a few more above. high distant shots that I though would work well for the message of being alone and distant. I also made use of the dolly track that turned out more successful than anticipated originally for lower close up shots that would link between the girl getting out of the car in the beginning and the girl waking up.

Dolly track I made

I have the footage I want for my video so I am going to take them into Adobe Aftereffects to edit.
